U-17 Miss Red Dot finishes 2nd in First and 3rd Heats in the Albert Lee Cup at Seafair
August 8, 2010 - Kip Brown driving the U-17 Miss Red Dot took the lead in Heat 2A until he entered the North turn and took a short flight. In the end it didn't matter as the U-17 received a one lap penalty and a negative 150 point fine for encroachment in the first turn of lap 1. In the South turn after his flight he got washed down and the turbine engine was damaged. The crew of the U-17 Miss Red Dot did a valiant effort changing the turbine out in just under an hour to start Heat 3A. Kip lead the field into the first turn and held onto 2nd place for the heat. However, the point penalty from the 2nd heat knocked the U-17 out of the final. In the provisional heat for the trailer spot in the final, Kip was late getting to the line and could not close the gap on the leader and that was the end of the day for the Miss Red Dot. It was a weekend of ups and downs, getting two 2nd place finishes and leading the 2nd heat showed that the teams hard work is starting to pay off and the U-17 Miss Red Dot is getting faster each race.
August 7, 2010 - Kip Brown flies the U-17 Miss Red Dot to 2nd place in Heat 1A of the 2010 Seafair Albert Lee Cup. Kip started the heat in lane 4, moved up to third place, fell back to fourth, then passed for third place again and second place moments later when the fire went out on the U-100.
August 6, 2010 - Kip Brown driving the U-17 Miss Red Dot improved his qualifying speed to 145.372 mph in his afternoon qualifying session. Qualifying continues tomorrow morning with the first heat action tomorrow afternoon.

July 25, 2010 - Nate Brown driving the U-17 Miss Red Dot finished the final in 4th place. After jumping the gun by inches on the start, Nate continued to battle around the white caps in the turns finishing in 4th out of 6 racers. This was a very successful weekend for the Our Gang Racing Team with the 3rd fastest qualifying time, making the final and finishing 4th. Team will now get ready for the Seafair race in Seattle in two weeks. U-17 Miss Red Dot 3rd Fastest Qualifier July 24, 2010 - The U-17 Miss Red Dot finished heat 1A in second behind the reigning national champion U-1 Oh Boy Oberto.
July 24, 2010 - The U-17 Miss Red Dot held on to the 3rd fastest time at 157.199 mph. Today's faster speed of 158.473 mph was removed for a N2 violation. This is the highest position the Our Gang Racing Team has ever finished in qualifying.

The only faster boats on Friday was the U-1 Oh Boy Oberto and the U-96 Spirit of Qatar. The U-17 was running a new horizontal stabilizer with a larger center section and fences. Qualifying continues in the morning followed by the first heat later in the afternoon.
U-17 Miss Red Dot Wins Heat 2B of Gold Cup July 11, 2010 - Nate Brown finished the prelims today with a couple 4th place finishes. It was just 30 points shy of being on the front line for the final. In the final heat the U-17 Miss Red Dot started from the trailer position. For a short time Nate pulled into 5th place then finished the heat in 6th. A great weekend for the U-17 Miss Red Dot with our first heat win.
July 10, 2010 - Heat 1B saw the U-17 in 3rd place after the heat was called because of the U-37 Peters & May crash. The U-37 broke the skin fin brackets so their skin fin was sitting sideways out of the water. JW Myers then went through a roostertail and emerged heading straight for pits, he managed to turn the boat to the right to avoid the pits but ran almost straight in to the bulkhead. He emerged amazingly with 4 broken bones in his foot. We wish him a speedy recovery.
In heat 2B the Nate Brown piloting the U-17 Miss Red Dot held off a hard charging U-100 Leland Unlimited driven by Greg Hopp to win our first heat victory of the year. After missing last week by one lap after a blown gear box, this heat win shows our hard work this off season is paying off. Right now we are sitting in 4th in points. Tomorrow is 2 more heats and the final. You can watch replay here.
July 9, 2010 - Our Gang Racing Teams U-17 Miss Red Dot ran an impressive 155.235 mph for a 2 lap average in qualifying for the Gold Cup. Nate Brown is the driver for this weekend's Jarvis Restoration Gold Cup. Nate won the Gold Cup in 2004. His speed was the 7th fastest over the 2 time trial sections today. Racing starts tomorrow with heats 1 & 2. Heats 3, 4 and final run on Sunday.

Our Gang Racing Team was the brain child of Gold Cup winner Nate Brown with the idea that a crew of regular guys could be blended together with the common goal of building a state-of-the-art race boat in their spare time. The boat was completed in a record time of six months (just in time for the Chevrolet Cup in Seattle in 2007). The first weekend on the water, Nate Brown brought the U-17 to a lap speed of more than 145 MPH, hitting 186 MPH in the straightaways. Last year ABRA Unlimited Rookie of the Year Kip Brown placed 4th in the Chevrolet Cup in Seattle. The team is now preparing for the 2009 season and who knows, the possibilities are endless.
