Preston, WA. -- The Our Gang Racing Team's U-17 unlimited hydroplane arrived home in Preston, WA after racing the first two races of the 2009 season. The team is now preparing for Tri-Cities.

Our Gang Racing enjoyed a successful weekend on the Ohio River at the Madison Regatta. Driver Kip Brown showed veteran drivers Steve David and Dave Villwock how a successful racing start should look in heat 1C by leading them across the line, finishing in 2nd place. Kip followed up with two 3rd place finishes in heats 2C and 3A. The team missed qualifying for the final by only 75 points.

"We had an igniter problem all weekend," said majority owner and "Coach" Nate Brown. "While trying to fix that, we couldn't concentrate on other areas. We are 10% low on fuel flow (which this year is 4.1 gallons per minute.) We are also 5% below on the N2 limit. Next week we will work on increasing those numbers and having a faster race boat."

The next week at the Detroit Gold Cup, the team improved its speed, qualifying fifth, only five mph off of the fastest boat. The luck of the draw was not with us, and with one false start to our name, we ended with three 4th place and one 3rd place finishes, leaving us well short of the final. In the fourth heat we also damaged our propeller.

"We are still looking for more speed, we'll run it hard in Tri-Cities and see where we are."

The Our Gang Racing Team's U-17 unlimited hydroplane is competing in the entire American Boat Racing Association season for the first time. Driver Kip Brown was awarded Rookie of the Year in 2008 and had his best finish ever with a 4th place in the 2008 Seattle Chevrolet Cup.
